It's the time of year when I gladly pull out my hair help my kids dye Easter Eggs!
They always look forward to this.
I always dread the mess it inevitably creates.
Plus making hard boiled eggs is somehow very difficult for me! lol
This year I found a craft kit with fake eggs and dye in a baggie.
Sweet! Boiled egg problem solved!
So I laid out the plastic tablecloth and supplies and we dove in!
Yes I attempted this alone with 4 kids!

I thought Laikyn would love it the most.
Nope. Her 2 year old mood just wasn't feeling it at the moment.
So she scowled and ran off.
The big kids however were totally into it!
Instead of dipping the eggs in dye,
you put the dye in a little baggie and then put the craft egg inside the bag
and roll it around.
Yeah! This meant no accidental spilled over cups of dye!
Poor Eastlie had woken up that morning with a cold.
Her little eyes were nonstop runny along with her nose.
But you wouldn't know she was sick!
She still just smiled ear to ear with dripping tears, snot and drool all day!
Poor little baby!!
The sibling rivalry was in full force.
They were really liking this new method of dying easter eggs!
Still just happily watching the big kids!
Laiklyn eventually decided to grace us with her presence again.
Ahh maybe this is fun after all Mommy!
Not sure how Anden's hands are clean yet Taylee's look like this! haha
I thought Taylee's hands were the only mess!
I couldn't believe how successful we were this year!
No paint disasters!!
Then I walked into the house to start cleaning up the supplies
and noticed green splatters of paint ALL over the patio door!
I was so confused where that came from and my eyes started quickly scanning for more.
And boy did I find more!
Green splatters of dye on the patio floors, house walls, doors, toys, EVERYTHING!!
I immediately hollered
"WHO THE HECK SPLATTERED GREEN DYE EVERYWHERE?!"
I was zooming in on the 2 year old...
because logically that made the most sense.
And that's when my 10 year old bashfully spoke up,
"Uhhhh it might have been me?"
My head whipped over towards him as his skinny little knees knocked together,
"WHAT?! HOW DID YOU DO THIS?!"
In his quietest voice ever he explained how he thinks it "might" have happened.
"Well when you went inside to help Laiklyn (mind you, the ONLY 5 mins I left the painting table)
I got cold so I decided to go over to the sun to finish my egg.
So I rode Taylee's skateboard across the patio and when I hit the cement crack
it threw me off the skateboard."
Still dumbfounded I clarified his story with the parts he left out,
"Are you kidding me? So you decided to ride a skateboard holding a bag of liquid dye?!!"
He sheepishly confirmed.
"But Mom I thought it only dripped on me!"
As he raises up those skinny legs and shows me the same green paint splatter all over him.
I didn't know whether to be furious, laugh or be embarrassed.
You see this is my oldest child who is also a straight A (almost straight A+) student.
Surely he would be more intelligent to do something like this?!
Right! Right??
As mad as I was about green dye splattered on the stucco of my HOUSE
I just had to force myself to secretly laugh about it.
So I handed him a scrub brush and bucket of soapy water.
I told him to get scrubbing because he wasn't playing with friends until it was gone.
Meanwhile I was frantically searching online for ways to remove easter egg dye
from cement, stucco, etc.
(which in case you need to know my "go to" magic eraser doesn't work on stucco as it shreds it! rats!)
Taylee, the good sister she is, volunteered to help him.
An hour later they were still out there with sore arms and bad attitudes.
I had to hide my amusement.
It's good for these kids to have a little manual labor in their lives.
Especially when stupidity lack of common sense caused it! lol
I finally relieved them of their child labor while I worked on the rest.
The dye pretty much came out of everything but the house. Ugh!
But we did get it to fade quite a bit.
Finally I texted Ryan at work and told him what happened
(yes I did wait until I could say most of the paint came out lol)
I assured him that I had taken every precaution with this project
as I know from years past there will somehow always be a disaster.
But wow there's no way I could have expected this one to happen!! lol sheesh
On a positive note,
I have now added another reason as to why I want the house repainted
a different color scheme! :)
The dye pretty much came out of everything but the house. Ugh!
But we did get it to fade quite a bit.
