Backyard Camping

Usually on the weekends I plan some sort of water activity
to keep us all cooled down and happy.
But after seeing the forecast for Saturday,
I opted for a bonfire and backyard camping.
The kids were SO excited!
I figured it would be our last cool day until December
so we might as well make the most of it!!

On Saturday night the Mortensens came over for a bonfire BBQ.
The girls were too chatty to actually go outside and participate in the bonfire
but the kids loved it! lol

We gathered leftover wood from around the yard
and built the perfect fire an hour before anyone arrived.
Anden was really into this!
Whatever I can do to get him to happily help! lol

Then Ryan lit the teepee of wood once everyone arrived.
I guess Taylee decided to keep a safe distance! lol

The kids sat out there all night!

We had dinner and roasted Peeps and marshmallows!

The Morts eventually headed home for bedtime.
But our fun was just starting!

Finally it was time to let the fire die out
and have flashlight bedtime stories!

Then yes we ALL slept in the tent together.
Including my pregnant self.

Happy Camping!

Soccer Game #3 and Baseball

The weather forecast had called for a overcast windy day in the mid 70s
with a chance of rain.
I highly doubted any of that.
But still dressed the kids warm,
did Taylee's hair in sassy buns to keep it from flying in her face,
and we set out for a 9am soccer game.

Let's just say the forecast was actually understated this time.
They should have predicted an
overcast day that was 60 degrees at 9am,
torrential winds that would blow your camping chair onto the field the second you stood up,
would blow your 5 yr old children off the field
and sideways rain by mid game
but yet don't even try to attempt to open an umbrella because it'll quickly turn it inside out.

As annoying as the weather was,
it was actually kind of exciting and somewhat fun.
C'mon folks we live in a place with clear sunny skies 360 days a year!

Needless to say they cancelled the game at halftime.
Luckily we were up 2-0 at that point.
We'll take the win and run (or be blown) to the car!!

Team Zebras
(and apparently Zebras come in EVERY color!)

At first glance you would think Grace & Taylee are just dancing.
But nope.
Taylee is trying to run into the wind.
Grace is being blown away by the wind.

Seeing how it was totally raining and they called the game at halftime,
I foolishly assumed Anden's baseball game, in an hour, would be cancelled too.
So I told Grace and Crew they could come home with us.
I immediately contacted Anden's coaches to see if they were playing
"Game is still on"
was the reply.
Oops now I had four kids to get weather ready and rushed back to the fields.

We took a carload selfie as we ran home to get warmer gear!

And then we were back to the baseball fields
with my wet minions.

Um I can think of about 793 reasons as to why this isn't a good water shielding method.

Anden hadn't wanted to put on a long sleeve undershirt
and opted for a jacket instead.
I warned him that sometimes it's hard to play in a bulky jacket.
He wanted to figure it out himself.

First at bat,
he struck out.
Seriously.
He's only done that once the entire season.
I blamed it on the weather...and of course the jacket! :)

In true Phoenix style,
the storm only lasted a couple of hours.
Halfway through Anden's game the rain stopped, skies cleared, sun came out
and the wind tapered down to a manageable level.
But it was still chilly!!

Anden braved it and took his jacket off for the rest of the game!

And he hit two big doubles to finish the game!

Taylee and her hot cocoa mustache.
Usually it's a popsicle mustache at these games but today we had to improvise! lol

Anden's team won yet another game!
They are doing so awesome!
They only lost their first game and have been on a tear ever since!

Friday Fun

Just a normal Friday afternoon at our house.
It started innocently with lizard catching

Which I quickly figured out who was the mastermind behind the activity

And then it moved on to target practice

Adjusting the scope...

Anden's turn...

Taylee's turn...

And Grace's turn...

I went inside for a bit and came back to the 3 amigos on the fence
staring into the wash.
Their Ring Leader was missing.
Not a good sign.

I guess they quickly had advanced from target practice to real life practice.
As Ryan threw their prized possession back over the fence into our yard.
Lovely.

Oddly I was the only one not completely excited and enthralled about their catch.

We took a break to order pizza for dinner.
Then I decided to would be nice to send our leftover pizza home with Grace
to share with her family.
Except I didn't put pizza inside.
Yep, the prized dead bird got sent to their house instead! :)
However,
somehow it made its way back to our driveway the next day.
Don't worry though
I'm planning a great way to send it back to its other home soon.
