New Pet

Saturday morning we were out running errands. When we came home we found this interesting creature clutched to our patio screen door.

Now I could be wrong, but I swear they normally aren't colored like this. I was certain a neighbor had lost their pet dragon lizard and luckily for us it landed on our door. Jer assured me that this was a normal wild lizard. Either way, the kids were thrilled and wanted to keep it. Me, not so much! I still can't get comfortable with the weird "wildlife" around here.
So the kids and Jeremy quickly made a new home for their new pet.
I watched from a safe distance.

The poor lizard almost had a heart attack trying to escape from the mini humans. Too bad those huge toes couldn't manage to crawl up the slick slide of the box. I had an ounce of compassion for the creepy thing and sent the kids inside before the lizard's heart exploded. I told them they could play with it after naps.

Two hours later Anden awoke and came in to tell me that the lizard was "hiding". I kindly explained "duh, of course he's hiding from you!" Then he informed me that it really was hiding...under the bush. Huh?! Guess Anden made a pit stop outside to visit the lizard before he came to find me. Guess he also learned that the lizard is a lot quicker than he is.

Mental note: Don't pick up lizards unless you want to lose them.

We no longer have a new pet.
