Well, I now know that my child has super human memory powers. He still asks about it each and every day. I remind him each time that it's "lost" and he's a big kid now and doesn't need it anyway. (All while knowing full well it's smothered with cracker crumbs and receipts in the bottom trenches of my purse. I admittedly feel guilty each time.) My answer satisfies his sucking comfort quench and off he goes on his way until his next vulnerable moment of tiredness and then we repeat the same conversation.
This morning was a new experience. I was getting ready when he came downstairs into my bathroom. First he was thrown off by his horrible discovery that his toy basket was on the stairs filled with laundry instead of toys. He was mortified that I must have thrown away his toys. I quickly assured him that I had bought him a better toy basket and showed him that the precious toys hadn't been sacrificed. I saw the relief overcome him. Then 2 minutes later he turned to me with those big clear blue eyes and whimpered "I want my binky...." I picked him up and hugged him and again explained the lost binky scenario. He wasn't buying it today. So I figured, I'll use this as a "teaching moment". I then proceeded to lovingly tell him "Honey, Heavenly Father came and got your binky because another little baby needed it more than you. We need to share with others that have less than us." He stared blankly at me for half a second and then crumbled, rushed into the closet, threw himself upon a heap of clothes and started sobbing..."Why would Heavenly Father DO that to ME??!!!"
So much for the charitable teaching moment.

Anden,
ReplyDeleteI hate to tell you...It doesn't get any better!! Heavenly Father does do "strange" things to us sometimes. Trust me, though. Once "withdrawals" run their course, life goes on...even better!!
But I must admit....that pacifier does look tempting at times, doesn't it?
Hang in there. But please tell me He didn't take your blanky, too!!
