Taylee's Special Day

Taylee was quite the
Birthday Celebrity
ALL.
DAY.
LONG.

I picked her up from school.
Where all were giving her hugs and blowing her kisses.
We headed out to her choice of lunch.
She pulled a fast one on me of her usual spot
and changed to pizza instead.
So we did just that.

Then we arrived at the sitter's house.
Where Holly, Lucy & Noah
were waiting by the door to attack her with
hugs, cards, and homemade cupcakes!
She was so excited!

So I left her there to nap
and ran back to work for two hours.
(oh ya that thing called work! oops!)

I got back to Holly's right as she was waking up.
And we excitedly headed to the salon.
Mani/Pedi Time!
(well at least for her. my taped up broken toe would have scared the workers away!)

Taylee is the wiggliest kid.
She literally never stops moving
unless she's asleep
but then she still spins circles in her bed.
So painting her nails was quite the feat!
Needless to say,
I had to give an abnormally large tip to the employee.

Next we headed to the mall.
She's been asking to get her ears pierced for months now.
(insert mental thought: when did ear piercing become $55!!!)
I was a tad hesitant at first
because I want to keep her young as long as possible.
But she said that's what she really super wanted.
So I had explained to her for a few days prior
that it would be a big poke but then have pretty earrings afterwards.
She was completely hyped up and SO excited to do it!
She picked out purple heart earrings
and jumped right up into the chair.
I again tried to remind her that it would be a pinchy poke.
It didn't phase her a bit.
She was ready to roll.

So they drew the dots on her ears.
And she was ready to go!

She was so still and confident.
And then the puncher gun poked her.
She immediately curled up and grabbed her ear.
She looked devastated.
I wanted to cry.
Then she cried.
Then I cried.
And she just looked at me and with huge tears streaming down her face and whimpered,
"Mommy that hurt so bad! Why would they hurt me on my birthday?!"
And then I cried more.

I wanted to scoop her up and run right out of there.
She was adamant she didn't want the other ear done.
(Question: WHY DON'T THEY DO TWO GUNS AT ONCE!?! Like any kid is going to willingly let them do it a second time once they know it hurts!)
So it took us awhile to talk about it and decide we did want the other earring.
But this time she wanted to sit on my lap and have my
arms wrapped around her holding her hands.
And also holding the stuffed animal they let us borrow.
While staring at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory kiosk next door
mentally selecting which candy we were going to get when done!

So we took a deep breath
and suddenly we had the second earring in.
And more tears.
From both of us.
But then she saw them in the mirror and said she loved them!
And gave me a hug.
While we wiped our tears and runny noses on each other!
She was still a little whimpery.
So I carried her over to get her magic chocolate.
And that fixed it!

On our way out of the mall,
we stopped to take a picture of her beautiful new purple heart earrings.
She was much happier to show them off now!
Which made me much happier!
I felt like I too needed a purple heart medal after that emotional event!

The we rushed over to Grandma Kathy's house.
Where the Harbecks were ready and waiting to party with her!
Anden & Grandma had spent the afternoon prepping
while we had our girly birthday events!
She walked in like a little rock star
with real earrings to show off!
While everyone ooh'd and aah'd and snuggled her!

So yes I admit,
I think birthdays are a big deal.
And I like to make sure my kiddos know
how special they are
on their special day!

And yes,
maybe I go a bit overboard....
but they only turn 4 once!
(and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10 and.... lol!)

Happy Birthday Princess!
You are so loved by everyone!
