School Fall Parties

Date: October 31st

Today Anden and Taylee both had their
School Fall Parties
(yes "Fall" because heaven forbid we call it "Halloween")

I volunteered to help at both parties.
Luckily Anden's was noon-2 and Taylee's was 2-3:30pm!
So I could fit them both in!

I hauled all my baby gear on into the school
and fended off the germie loves from all the little kids to Laiklyn
while still being a productive parent volunteer!
I'm learning to become a master juggler with this 3rd little child of mine!

First up: Anden's Party!

I was assigned to run the Bingo table.
Let's just say after playing Bingo
and calling out the same dang squares for an hour
I was DONE! lol
So I snagged another parent to run that table
while I wandered around with Anden's group!

As soon as his peers were begging to hold Laiklyn,
Anden came running over to make sure he got dibs on his baby sister instead!

Grace wanted to be in the picture with us.
Which makes sense since she's basically part of our family!

Next: Taylee's Party

The 4 1st grade classes did their parties together
and rotated between the rooms for different activities.

In the first room they played a numbers/adding/subtracting game.

Then a "trick" or "treat" game that you punched the circle
and either got a treat (fruit snack) or a trick (plastic food).

I have to document what occurred during this game.
There were very few "tricks".
So each time a kid got one that poor kid would start crying
and feel so bad as the class laughed at the food, not the kid
but it just added to that child's disappointment.
It broke my heart along with Miss Mackeda
as we both quickly tried to cheer up each kid.
I'm sure the parent that designed this game had no idea this would be the outcome.
Well Taylee took her turn and got a treat!
As they continued around the circle each taking their turn,
another little girl Alyssa
(who had befriended me at the field trip the day before & told me how much she likes Taylee)
punched out a "trick" plastic hamburger.
Her reaction was the same as the other 2 kids to get tricks.
Heart break and tears.
Well it moved on and the next kids all got treats.
I was busy helping Laiklyn and happened to glance over to see this...
I noticed Taylee was standing up and walking over to Alyssa during the game
I saw her whisper to her and then hand her her "treat" in exchange for her "trick".
Knowing my sweet daughter
I knew exactly what was taking place.
My heart swelled and my tears welled.
I heard Alyssa whisper thank you and Taylee quietly walked across the circle
back to her spot and sat back down unnoticed.
Well the game ended and there were a few spots still left to punch out.
The teacher decided those kids that got "tricks" got to take another turn.
So she called Alyssa's name to go up there.
Alyssa quietly spoke up,
"Well Taylee traded me her treat because she didn't want me to be sad."
My welling tears immediately dripped down my face
and I had to turn away to regain my composure.
Maybe I'm still a hormonal mess
or maybe the ultimate motherly happiness
is seeing your child serve others.
We do our best to teach our kids principles
but rarely do you get the reward of seeing those principles in action.
That was definitely one of my Mommy Feel Good moments.

I love Taylee's teacher and know she genuinely loves Taylee.
She's told me many times before how Taylee is just her favorite
and if she ever has a daughter
she wants her to be exactly like Taylee.
Well before the class moved on to the next activity in the other room
Miss Mackeda grabbed my arm and just smiled,
"This is just another reason why I love your daughter so much!"
I just smiled in return as another little tear escaped.
Geez who knew I would be crying at a school party!! lol

Ok on to the next activity,
the dessert room!

Pumpkin Bowling

The Girls!

Then we rushed home to get ready for the REAL DEAL
Trick or Treating here we come!
(and yes we're having last minute costume changes!)
