Anden Basketball League

Date: Feb 16th

Anden has been going stir crazy since football ended mid November.

It's the longest he's ever gone without playing an organization sport!

I, however, was super happy about having 

one less kid to shuffle to practices and games!

But it was long overdue to rejoin the sports world.

He decided he didn't want to go back to Flag Football

after having played Tackle Football and loving it!

So he and his buddy Owen decided to join a basketball league.

Mind you that Anden hasn't played basketball since he was like 7 years old!!

I was super proud of him for tackling something that

wasn't his comfort zone

and that the other kids were well ahead of him in their developed skills.

Usually he's one of the best athletes at whatever he does.

So this was somewhat humbling for him

as he was starting from scratch!

He's improved greatly already!

In today's game he also learned that basketball 

actually is a contact sport!!

He's a scrappy player always in the middle fighting for rebounds.

Which also makes him more prone to elbows to the face, nose, lips, etc.

He got a nasty bloody nose from a kid in the first game.

He had to sit out until that stopped bleeding

and then went back in for more!

Yes I took a pic of him on the bench with a wad of tissue up his nose! 

Then in their second game that day

he got a head butt from another kid to his mouth!

That one almost laid him out flat.

To the point that this Momma Bear finally got up off the bleachers

to go over and check on him.

I took him out to the hall and inspected the damage.

OUCH!

I assured him his bottom lip wasn't too swollen and noticeable.

He made me take a picture to prove it to him.

OK OK so maybe it's an enhanced version of the already pouty Furniss lips! lol

Poor kid!!!

He went back to the team bench with his bag of ice on his mouth.

I thought for sure there was no way he would go back into the game.

But alas he was back in playing a few minutes later!

Such a tough kid!

And yes he'll be wearing a mouthguard from now one too!

The next day his mouth looked even worse! ouch!
