We were lucky enough that the Gravens came out
to Arizona to spend the 4th of July weekend with us!!
They arrived Thursday afternoon.
The kids immediately mauled Kyrrigan.
Like literally.
Taylee never took her hands off her the ENTIRE weekend!!
It was so hot that they immediately changed into patriotic swim attire
and played around until it was time to head to the
Anthem Fireworks Celebration!
Teaching Kyrrigan about trampolines!
(and the inevitable injuries!)
Clearly the girls were still really excited about getting their picture taken!
Then we had dinner and played more!
We weren't leaving for the Fireworks until 7:30pm
so we had lots of time to play at home!
The girls innocently colored
while the boys caught lizards!
After quickly realizing we were adding to our Paraplegic Pet Ward,
we let the lizard with the half missing tail and paralyzed back legs go free.
(I swear he was like that BEFORE the kids manhandled him!)
I distracted the girls with helping me make festive chocolate dipped flag strawberries!
After Kyrrigan ate enough blue sugar,
she ditched us to play UNO with the boys!
No worries though,
we got her attention back when I broke out the patriotic nail painting gear!
Well during this time all of our phones kept beeping like crazy
with Dust Storm Warnings for our area.
This is typical July/August Monsoon weather for us.
No biggie.
Well the wind and dust started rolling in.
Then the lightning did too.
But Anthem has never cancelled this event.
So we loaded up and headed over to the park anyway
with all our blankets, treats, and festive glow sticks in tow!
We were 20 feet into the parking lot when the the rain drops started falling.
The wind felt awesome and had definitely cooled down the place.
Lyndsay was so excited to have a "rain storm".
I warned her this is really a mud storm
and our cars will look gorgeous later!
About that time a nice family told us that the Sheriff and Fire Marshal
had just come by and officially cancelled the event!!
Bummer!!
But luckily for us the kids were still in the wagon
and not on any of the rides, etc yet.
So no hearts were broken as we simply
u-turned the wagon and walked right back to the car!
Well maybe Taylee was a bit miffed! :)
So the Anthem Festival lasted a whopping 7 minutes for us! lol
But I assured the kids that we could light some of our own fireworks when we got home!
(I had a bunch ready for the 4th but hey it was a weather related schedule change!)
So we set ourselves up in the front street and fought with the wind to light a few.
Not sure which factor caused the extreme blur...the wind, the camera or nonstop moving Taylee! lol
Finally the rain got a little too much and we headed inside.
And I noticed my camera was mud speckled meaning I'm sure our heads were too!
Rain + Dust Storm = Very Clean Earth!
Before bed the kids begged for a couple more sparklers in the backyard.
It was more protected from the weather elements!
So of course we obliged!
Although the weather didn't cooperate,
we still had a super fun night!
Happy 3rd of July!
