Cub Scout Day Camp

Date: June 11-13th

Anden had his first
Cub Scout Day Camp
on June 11-13th.
They were LONG fun, dirty, exhausting days
from 1pm-10pm!
(and then a 45 minute drive home!!)

I was *lucky* enough to go with him on Saturday!
I envisioned it to be miserable.
105 degrees and we're literally all day on hot rocky South Mountain
But honestly I had a great time!
Some of my friends came as the other parent chaperones.
So we laughed and sweated all day together
while wrangling eleven 8 year olds!
(sounds entirely delightful doesn't it?! lol)

The kids rotated between stations all day.

Shooting

Anden was good at this one.
He's had some practice!

Archery

This one was a bit more difficult for him to pop the balloon.
I assured him the balloon was dodging the arrow! ;)
He did pop it it early on in the 2nd round though!

Swimming

They did a swim test on the 1st day to group them by skill.
Anden was in the blue "advanced" group.
By golly I guess he does know how to swim when he wants to!
(rather than hanging on Ryan in the pool!)

Dinner Break

Each troop was assigned a picnic bench as their home base.
Ours was under a bridge.
I guess that makes us trolls.
Rather than eat, the kids spent the break filling water balloons
(the camp is at least smart enough to have a faucet pump thing at each table)
and tormenting the leaders
and the scout troop nearby.
This was probably their fave part of the day! lol

The Parkside Ward Cub Scouts!

We tried really hard to get a leaders pic.
Anden was the photographer
which meant 10 other little boys were trying to photobomb us.
We were shooing them away left and right.
We thought we had won!!
Until I saw the pic.

Guess two pesky flies found their way in behind us!!
(And I'm laughing so hard my eyes are closed.  Oh well! lol)

Games

Good ole tug of war!
Anden's towards the middle wearing a furry raccoon hat.
Totally weather appropriate.
But hey the dang camp had a store and that's what he bought
to go along with the raccoon tail he purchased the tail before.

Then the camp directors attached it to a pulley
and taught the kids how much easier it is to use that.
So it was the kids vs all the adult leaders.
The kids were on the pulley end.
And wouldn't you know it,
they beat us!

Me and my little Davy Crockett!

Crafts

Each day they did a different craft.
Today they made wooden swords.
They loved it!

The view from camp as we left the craft building.

The final stop was the Water Games station.
It was now dark so we busted out the glow sticks for everyone.
But instead of taking any pictures of this station,
I spent the entire time washing off little boys
that somehow had exploded glow in the dark liquid all over them.
"No really Mom I don't know how it exploded!"
Anden's face was literally glowing.
He realized joke was on him when the pollutants
started to mix with the dirt and sunburned cheeks.
"Hurry it burns, it burns!"
As I shoved his head in the sink.
I don't think he'll be smearing that stuff on his face anytime soon.

On that note we loaded up and skipped the final ceremonies.
We figured we better leave while everyone were still alive! lol
And yet we still didn't even get home until 10:30pm!
What a long fun day!
