So in the middle of all the redecorating craziness upstairs
Anden patiently and persistently let me know he wanted some tweaks to his room too.
I told him several times that I had just redone his room a couple years ago
(which I looked it up on the blog and it was over 3 years ago!)
and that this time it was the girls turn.
Well Anden is a relentless soul.
He instead kept begging if he could have a desk too now that Taylee got one.
I agreed that would be a good addition to his room.
So once I finished Taylee's room I started scouring online for a desk for Anden.
Per my usual annoying standard,
I couldn't find anything that I envisioned in my head.
So Craigslist here I come to find something with good bones
that I could refinish how I wanted.
Bingo!
I found this solid oak desk and hutch for $80.
I picked it up the next day and started yet another project.
(Yes Ryan rolled his eyes on this one since I assured him Anden's room wasn't on the To Do list)
I gave it a light sanding and then stained the top pieces a dark ebony color
Then painted the side pieces gray.
I didn't realize how much more work it was to do a two tone treatment.
Ugh maybe that's why I couldn't find any already done this way!
Once I got both colors done I went back and glazed the gray parts to give it a distressed look.
Heck it's going in a boys room and would be "distressed" in about 2 weeks.
But oh well I did it anyway! lol
Then came the part that I assigned to Ryan because I know he LOVES this! haha
I sent him and Anden to Home Depot with my little drawing and supply list.
I needed metal sheets that were magnetic and liquid glue.
I had decided it would be super cool to line the hutch with these
then Anden could hang anything magnetic to it.
Anden was thrilled.
Ryan not so much.
Then he really wasn't happy after he sliced his thumb cutting out the sheets.
(hey that's user error, not wifey error! lol)
So Anden and Ryan installed the metal backing to the hutch
and then this bad boy got carried upstairs to Anden's room!
WELLLLL you know I can't just stop there.
Now he has this ultra cool updated desk in his room and the rest just didn't match.
So I had a spare nightstand from good will (for $12 mind you) sitting in my garage
that I figured I would refinish for someone sooner or later.
So I dusted that puppy off and gave it the same treatment as the desk.
I justified it to Ryan that hey I already have all the painting supplies out
I might as well knock out on more project before I clean up! :)
WELLLLLL....you can guess what happened next.
Now his dresser just looked outdated too. lol
So my happy to help with another project Hubby hauled that thing to the garage
and I started on it the next day!
C'mon again I still had the painting supplies out so why put them away?! haha
So my I'm not going to touch Anden's room this time
turned into refinishing 3 different pieces of furniture for him.
WELLLLLL I wish I could say I stopped there!
(haha I know I know. Ryan had given up about now!)
Once we hauled everything up to his room
the dark furniture and the dark navy walls just weren't doing it for me.
The family tried to talk me into liking it.
Ryan desperately tried to redirect my OCD into another area.
But nope I couldn't live with it. lol
So yep the next day I was at the paint store getting wall paint
and that weekend I completely repainted his room.
By the following week I had purchased all new accessories and decor.
Ahhhh now I love his room and it all sits well in my universe! lol
Anden's Room Before:
(truth be told I still love the navy/lime color combo. But it just needed an update to go with his new furniture!)
I was a bit sad to take these cute silhouettes of him down.
But it was time for something new!
Anden's Room After:
Yes I did tell him I would install a rock climbing wall in that empty corner!
So other than a few accessories yet to come for his birthday,
this room is done!!
I love it so much better!
Lighter, brighter and more neutral.
Now I can just swap out accessories when he grows out of this decor.
(haha we'll see if I really stick to that!)
And I'm happy to say at least this room makeover only took 2 weeks
unlike the girls rooms that drug on forever finding
all the perfect little accessories!
Boys are SO much easier in so many ways! haha
