Phoenix Christmas Eve

Each year Santa makes a special exception to come visit us early before we leave for Idaho. Makes it much easier! Another benefit is this way we have 2 chances to threaten our kids about the whole “naughty list” thing. If they think they’re in the clear after our Phoenix Christmas, we quickly remind them that Santa will be back on the real Christmas Eve and therefore the naughty list rules are still in effect. Works perfectly! :-)

Tuesday night (15th) was our “Christmas Eve”. We spent the day hurrying around with last minute preparations. That night we had a yummy dinner of filet mignon and funeral potatoes (hashbrown casserole that I finally just learned how to make!) Anden absolutely loves the finer things in life…like expensive cuts of meat. I think we’ve set ourselves up for trouble. Good bye processed chicken nuggets. After Jeremy begged him for the remaining morsels, we got bundled up (AZ style) and went on a sleigh ride (again, AZ style) to look at all the Christmas lights.

After our fingers were frozen, we headed home to take gifts over to our neighbors. We lucked out and have the coolest neighbors! Then it was finally time to open up the one Christmas Eve gift. New jammies!

Once we got all changed, we read The Polar Express and finally dumped the kids in bed. Then the joys of parenthood kicked in; piecing together the remnants of the house for the next 2 hours and then prepping for Christmas the following 2 hrs after that. But it’s all worth it when the next morning you have a spotless, clutter free house (if only for 10 mins) and ecstatic children!
