Super {BUSY} Sports Saturday

Saturday was a crazy one for us!
Action packed and fun all at once!

The kids and I got up early and attempted to lounge around
before the mad dash of the day began.
We ate breakfast and packed our bags for the day.
Then we were off.

First up:
Anden's Little League Baseball Tryouts

Each year we have somehow missed the deadline to sign up for Little League.
Anden really wanted to play, even though he's already in Basketball.
Normally I try to have them focus on one sport at a time.
But Little League isn't ran by Anthem Sports.
So the reality is it will always overlap with Anthem Sports.
After much debate and consulting various other coaches and parents of double sport kids,
I was assured that putting him in now was the best thing for him!
So that's what we did!

The 7 year old tryout time was 9:30-10:30am.
This was the first year that 7 year olds had to try out
(every kid makes a team but tryouts are for placement purposes)
Needless to say the staff wasn't quite prepared for the onslaught of kids.
There was a massive line when we arrived 10 mins early.
We checked in, got his number and were instructed to go to the back of the line.
There we stood and waited for NINETY minutes!!
Miserable?
Slightly!
At least some friends from church were in front of us in line
and we kept each other company.

Taylee's basketball game was at 11am a couple blocks away at the Community Center.
However there's only one Mommy to get both kids were they need to go.
I was definitely stressing!

At 10:50 Anden was up.
They shoved a way too little batting helmet on his head
and announced his number over the loud speaker.
They instructed him to go up to bat.
They pitched him 3 times and he nailed each one.
Then they instructed him to run to 2nd base.
They handed him his mitt and threw him 3 grounders at short stop,
then sent him to outfield and threw him 2 throws.
That was it.
Literally.
I just stood there in shock.
We waited NINETY minutes for literally 90 seconds of fame?!?!

Anden was barely back to the dugout when I was already in my sprint stance
(in my inappropriately thought out very high heels)
ready to race/drag the kids to the car and on to the next event.
Taylee was upset that she was going to be late to her first game
while Anden was upset he didn't get to revel in his 90 seconds of glory.
Taylee lost her flip flop twice on the sprint to the car.
I almost told her to leave it behind the second time!

We finally got to the car, loaded up and drove over to the Community Center.
We quickly changed into her basketball shoes and raced inside.
We found the court but oddly couldn't find her team.
I know I looked quite frazzled juggling 2 sports bags, purse and game treats
while corralling two kids.
I found her coach and asked what court.
He oddly looked at me and said I think we don't play until noon.
Really?!
I'm usually abnormally on the ball.
Guess I lost one (or 5) of my marbles that day!
But hey that was perfect after all!
We now had time to load back up and go get lunch for 45 mins!
And pull ourselves together! lol

Next up:
Taylee's Basketball Game #1

We arrived back to the Community Center in time to find her team
(funny how easy that is when you show up at the right time!)
and warm up.
Taylee is so cute and was really anxious about her game.
Mommy what if I don't know what to do?
What if I can't shoot the ball high enough?
What if I don't know the rules?
What if I'm not good enough?
What if?
What if?
Gosh she's definitely got my overachiever worry wart personality.
Poor thing! lol

I just hugged her and reassured her everything would go wonderfully
and that everyone else was new and didn't have it mastered either.

One of her cute Kindergarten teachers, Miss Vicki, showed up to watch.
That made Taylee's day!
There are 4 kids from her class in the league!

Well this game was beyond entertaining!!
I love little kid sports!
They are so innocent and clueless yet still competitive!
We have a ringer on our team.
He's an older 6 year old that was actually on Anden's winter football team.
This is a 5-6 yr old co-ed league.
So he got lumped in with a bunch of little 5 year olds.
On the first play of the game,
Christian got the ball and raced to the basket for a layup.
The entire rest of our team,
including Taylee,
were still standing at half court admiring each others' outfits
and chatting away.
I was dying laughing and yelling at Taylee to RUN!!!!
She looks at me confused and raises her hands in the air while mouthing
RUN WHERE?!?!
lol Never mind.  Just stand there and continue to look adorable! :)

The kids quickly caught on to the concept of helping your teammates.
Taylee is so competitive and a natural athlete.
She would race up and down that court about faster than anyone.
She just makes me giggle to watch her play sports!

I'm Team Mom.
Yes I know this seems to happen every season.
Maybe I should stop opening my mouth to help out?
Or maybe it's that every coach pretty much knows me now and
knows I'm the sucker that will say yes! lol
We also volunteered to bring game treats first.
Taylee LOVES being the one to hand out the treats.
I designed a little tag and she helped me assemble them that morning.

We headed home for a quick 45 min break
and to grab my print outs from Walgreens for my church lesson tomorrow.
(always multitasking! lol)
Then we raced back to the Community Center.

Next Up:
Anden's Basketball Game #1

This year Anden is in the 7-8 yr old boys league.
No more co-ed for him!
He was rather excited about that.
Several kids on his team are our friends from church.
So that's fun for him (and me!).
He's back to being the younger of the kids.
But he kept right up!
This was a really competitive neck and neck game!

The boys did great for only having 1 practice.
They barely lost at the last minute.
It was a great game!

Finally time to load up and NOT come back to the Community Center!
We relaxed and played at home.
Normally we would have cooped up inside for the night after such a busy day.
But we were given tickets to the Gilbert Temple Open House.
So we changed clothes and raced down that way!

I had been trying to get tickets since they became open to the public.
But I couldn't find any on a day/time that we could all go.
Well that morning Ashley had snagged some from another lady from church
that now couldn't go and she had enough for our little family too!

So we drove the hour to Gilbert
and met the Mortensens there.
We all had such a fun and fulfilling night!

We still had to wait about an hour to get inside the chapel next door.
They started with a little video explaining the history and construction of the Temple.
Then we walked across the parking lot to the Temple.
I had given the kids a brief overview on the drive there so that they would be prepared.
Taylee of course asked 500 questions.
Anden was content with my synopsis and went back to watching his movie.
When we got to the Temple entrance,
the kids laughed about having to put the little white booties on
(in order to not get the flooring inside dirty)
and then did their best to stay quiet throughout the tour.

The Temple is gorgeous inside.
As to be expected!
I was so happy to be able to share this experience with the kiddos and Ryan
and also with our friends!

While we were walking to go inside the Temple,
Ash took a couple pictures of us!

Oh sweet crazy Taylee lol
Every pic is a different pose

The street side of the Temple where the tour exited.

Afterwards we all loaded up and headed out to dinner.
Heck if we are on this side of town then we're definitely hitting Cafe Rio
and then on to Bahama Bucks for dessert!

We all had such a great time.
For as much as we hang out together
this event was something definitely special and extra memorable!
