Per tradition,we hit up the
Adobe Mountain Railroad Train Park
for their Christmas event!
The kids love this little festive event!
You just donate a toy for their Toy Drive
and everything is free!
Can't beat that!
This train park is a non profit place.
Which means it's ran by a bunch of old folks
that have an abnormal love for trains and built this as their hobby!
First up:
The mini train ride!
I've been taking the kids here for 4 yrs.
Yes, Taylee was 2.5 mos the first time we came!
I've never had a problem.
Until this year.
During the 15 min train ride through the dark desert
the kids got wiggly and slightly bored looking at the Christmas lights.
I got out my phone to take a picture.
Anden, sitting in between my legs, asked if he could take a picture.
I knew that was a bad idea but went against my better judgement.
"Hold it TIGHT and don't drop it!" I instructed.
"I will Mommy!" he replied.
So he took a few pics...
Well as he was showing me the picture he took,
nonstop moving Taylee turned around
to see and bumped the phone out of his hand
and onto the ground.
And there I watched as our little faces on my phone
lit up the dark sky as we putted away.
It's one of those moments when for a split second you debate,
should I humiliate myself to yell for the train to stop
or just pretend that didn't happen.
Well luckily the dad/kid behind me yelled
and the train came to an abrupt stop.
I wanted to crawl inside my jacket!
So the train worker on the caboose picked up my poor phone
out of the dirt and walked it up to me.
However he couldn't just discreetly hand it to me.
Instead he decided to lecture me about dropping my belongings
and that my kids weren't sitting facing forward.
Um really?
Because it appears the entire train is turned backwards to watch this!
But I kept my mouth shut and
humbly and mumbly thanked him
while trying to ignore all the stares coming my direction from the other passengers.
There's 20 people on this train.
And my kids are the only ones that can't keep their belongings INSIDE the train.
So there we sat frozen, facing forward, the rest of the ride.
I was afraid I was gonna get slapped with a ruler
if we broke anymore train rules!
As we exited the train, there was a little band playing Christmas music.
I just busted up laughing.
All I could think of was the polka band in the rental truck
in the movie Home Alone.
Devouring hot cocoa and cookies!
Checking out the model trains!
There's even one train track that they let the kids help drive.
Then the kids robbed the dessert table a few more times
while I continued to shake loose my new stalker single dad friend,
yes the one that alerted the authorities to rescue my phone.
And we high tailed it out of there
before he sent his 4 yr old son to memorize our license plate number!
