Location: Blackfoot, Island Park
Today was one of the most anticipated days of the trip.
We were heading to the cabin!!
But not without stopping at A&W first to get REAL tap root beer!
Then we headed to the Idaho Falls airport to pick up the Gravens.
From there we were off to Island Park!!
It always makes each of us so giddy as we drive up the mountain
and the snow starts to get thicker and deeper and prettier!!
The forecast called for snow showers every day we were there! Yippee!
We finally arrived!
Ahhh Winter Wonderland!
The kids bolted to the back deck to play within 2 seconds!
They were elated that Kyrrigan was old enough to play outside with them this year!
Finally we fired up the Rhinos and decided to take the kids sledding!
It was Kyrrigan's first ever sledding experience!
Taylee volunteered to hold on tight to her.
Maybe a little too tight even!
The boys decided to take an offroad turn.
We immediately got stuck.
Like really stuck.
This year the snow was much different.
It was that light fluffy DRY snow.
Which means no traction, no compacting, no snowballs.
Basically it was like driving in fluffy soft sand.
Needless to say it wasn't ideal conditions for a Rhino/RZR!!
As we watched the boys attempt to dig us out, rock us out, pull us out, tree trunk us out
and any other half brained idea,
the girls decided we better call good ole Papa Nolie to come bail us out.
It's a call that I'm sure he never gets used to receiving! lol
Well to our luck right then Papa Nolie pulled up to our rescue.
I guess we had been gone too long and he knew what that meant! lol
He had the tow rope all ready and pulled us out!
As he was murmuring about us being dim wits he got stuck too! lol
So for the next 30 mins we played a game of high centered leap frog.
He pulled us out, He got stuck.
We came around front and pulled him out, We got stuck again.
He came around front and pulled us out again, He got stuck again! lol
What a mess!
We quickly learned this would be nothing but a trail riding trip!
So weird since nobody got stuck once last year!
But alas finally we were all free and back to sledding!
We decided not to push our luck any further with the rhinos and headed back to the cabin.
We weren't inside 5 mins before the boys were heading back out with a chainsaw.
Aaron was determined to catch a fish.
Ice fishing/Sawing here they come!
I loved looking out and seeing Dad and Ryan just staring at Aaron working away
probably thinking "He's crazy! This is the most boring "sport" ever!" lol
Well eventually they made their way back inside to confirm they were
successful cutting a square of ice out of the lake and had reached water.
Then they informed us of their next brilliant plan.
"Katie grab the camcorder and follow us outside because we're going to jump in!!!"
"HUH?!!"
"Ya we're gonna jump in in our underwear!"
I probably stated something like IDIOTS as I pulled on all my snow clothes
and grabbed the camcorder.
Dad volunteered to come down and mock them.
Taylee volunteered to be carried down and just be in the middle of the action.
I got forced to document it.
Aaron and Ryan gleefully carried their tarp on down as the"staging area".
We get down there and I look at the size of the hole and just start laughing.
It was at most a square foot big.
"Um guys there is NO WAY you big boys are fitting in that hole!!"
Well they were determine to prove me wrong.
So they stripped down to their skivvys and took their turns holding onto the side of the hole
and dipping their bodies in to their armpits.
Aaron went first.
Ryan went second.
Aaron had to beat Ryan and went again.
This time completely going under the water.
IDIOTS!! lol
Needless to say I was partially right when Aaron realized he had scraped
up his back along the ice.
He was slightly too large for the hole! lol
Unfortunately I forgot to download the video off Lynds' camcorder so you
could enjoy the full moron effect.
So the few pics I took will have to do!
I can imagine Papa Nolie is reassuring Taylee,
"Don't worry honey it's a recessive gene that skipped your generation. You won't end up like this!"
So with their newly inflated egos intact,
they pulled their dry clothes back over their FREEZING undergarments
and we all hiked back up to the cabin!
And straight into the hot tub!!!
Then it was baths and snuggle movie time!
Love these cute little snuggle bug cousins!
What a super fun first day at the cabin!
And to think there's 4 more days of this!
