Memorial Day Weekend - Roosevelt Lake Part 1

Date: May 23rd, May 24th
Location: Roosevelt Lake, AZ

Friday after school was officially DONE,
we headed up to Roosevelt Lake for the weekend!
We have never spent a weekend there.
So this was going to be an adventure.

After much debate,
we decided to just find a nice cove upon our arrival and shoreline camp
(yes folks this prego girl tent camped!)
We crossed our fingers that this lake wouldn't be packed,
like our local lakes,
and that holiday traffic wouldn't be a nightmare.
Little did we know we were going to luck out on both accounts! :)

We got there right at sunset and the pressure was on to get launched
and find a cove that was good for camping and boating
on a lake that we were totally unfamiliar with
and had no map or GPS to aid us.
But we pulled it off!!
We beached the boat as the last spec of light was disappearing
and set up camp in the dark.
The kids were beyond giddy!

We played a competitive tournament of UNO in our tent and finally crashed out!
We had a big day of fun ahead!

The next morning we were up bright and early!

Morning Exploration
(since we really had no clue where we parked ourselves in the dark last night!)

Anden went on an archaeological expedition

And by golly he uncovered a rare skeleton

He was certain it was a dinosaur or some massive reptile.
Ryan was certain it was a fish.
We'll go with Anden's theory...it's more exciting!

Taylee's prized find! :)

Then we loaded up the cooler and snacks
and set sail to play and explore on water instead of land!

My mini captains always perched up front!

Let the playing and the eating begin!
(somehow the eating is nonstop when we're on the boat!)

We pulled the boys in the tube over to check out the big bridge and the dam

Nice Grill Buddy! :)

Anden is a professional tuber fanatic!
He would ride that thing all day if he could!
He's completely fearless and just loves being tossed around out there! lol

Then we ventured over to check out the Marina.
Which quickly became our daily popsicle pit stop!

The kids wanted to ride the tube back slowly with it tied up close
so they could surf the big wake!
Sweet, the adults will enjoy the boat in peace! :)

Back at camp we played horseshoes and bean bag toss.
The kids were super competitive (big surprise)
and actually really good!

Anden took a break to play in the mud!

Finally the Mud Monster decided to join in the dry games as well

Taylee and I went on a little walk

Then we loaded up for more water fun!
This time Mommy got in the tube too!

I would like to think Anden's cute little face was admiring me.
But really he was concocting a mischievous plan to get me thrown out!

Anden talked me into riding the surf wave up close

Judging by my overly dramatic faces, I had fun!
(And I wonder where Taylee gets all her dramatic looks! Oops! lol)

But hey you try and balance on a moving bumping tube when your
center of balance is off kilter with a baby belly!!

After nearly knocking (or laughing) the baby out,
I decided my surfing days were over.
Taylee quickly took over my spot
on the tube
and as the dramatic facial expression participant.

Eventually we made our way to the Marina for cold treats
and to gawk at the fish!

Taylee decided it would be easier to eat her ice cream sandwich like corn on the cob.
Not sure that was the best idea! lol

Anden's hair cracked me up all day!
If you recall we left right after school on Friday
and he had massive amounts of gel/hair spray in his mohawk.
So yes it was like hardened wind blown wet yet dry hair after a few dunks in the lake!

After our ice cream break, we were back at it!

Everyone just kept rotating turns
(minus me, sniff sniff)
until it was almost sunset!
Finally we headed back to camp for dinner and games!

Our humble abode
(and yes we did move the gas cans at night!)

Apparently camp chairs are overrated

After dinner the kids and I hiked to the top of the nearby hill

Then it was time for our nightly UNO tournament in the tent
before we all crashed out from a long fun day!
