Today was our last day in Mexico!
But we still put in a full day!
I had heard about this "aquarium" yet somehow there was nothing on the internet
about it and nobody knew if it really existed! lol
Classic small town Mexico.
Well I was determined to take the kids to it because I had heard you could pet sea turtles etc.
So by golly we wandered the sand (not even dirt) streets until we found it!
But in classic Mexico style, nobody knew when or if it ever opened!
We actually went by there the night before
but a neighbor told us it was closing soon and to come back in the morning.
So we headed right back there in the morning.
The place was on lock down and of course no hours were posted
yet the OPEN sign was in full view! lol
Right then a car pulled up and in our spanglish and his non english we communicated
somehow that it opened in an hour because the owner couldn't find the door keys!
Didn't sound too promising. lol
So we headed back into town to visit the new Penasco sign!
We didn't have a picture by it yet!
about it and nobody knew if it really existed! lol

Then it was back to the sand streets to the random unmarked building of the "aquarium".
And believe it or not the door was open and we walked on in!
It was one big room with multiple tubs of water full of sea creatures.
I guess they were all washed up or stuck or abandoned sea animals that would have died
but this guy rescued all of them and brought them back to health.
They can't be released into the wild anymore
so he takes care of them here.
Donations accepted of course.
It was a small place but totally worth it!
We were the only ones there
(hhmm wonder why, I could give him a few marketing tips! lol)
and the kids got very up close and cozy with the creatures!
They loved it!
Well except Eastlie. She's my breed of human! :)
Ryan forcing Eastlie to touch the sea turtle.
Cue meltdown now!
Uh ya probably needs to stay in the water honey!
Ok that's better!
The Sea Horses were adorable!
Outside the building there was a cool shark.
Eastlie was deathly scared of it! lol poor kid
Ryan forced her to stand close to it for a family pic!
She was not happy about it!
Then he really forced her to take a kids only picture.
Ya she was livid!
Then back to the resort!
Poolside lunch delivery is the best!
And down to the beach right after!
Well that's one way to keep her still! lol
"Hey Mom we can't find Anden!"
So funny!
I would have had a claustrophobia attack! lol
Meanwhile Taylee was getting a henna tattoo!
Little Eastlie sprinting to us in the background!
Any bets she'll face plant and be as sandy as Anden is?! ha
Ryan took the Mango Monster up to nap while the rest of the kids and I
stayed down at the beach.
Laiky is by far my best child at entertaining herself.
She made "sand cakes" for an hour!!
While Taylee was dying that she didn't read the fine print
that she couldn't get in the water for 45 mins after he finished the Henna! lol
Eventually we hauled everyone up to the condo to shower and pack up for the trip home.
Eastlie didn't want to be interrupted in the bathroom.
I guess electronics and going to the potty start at a very young age! lol
Then we hit the road home about 4pm.
We had hoped if we waited til later in the day that the border wouldn't be so backed up.
Some of our friends had gotten stuck waiting in line for 2-4 hours!!
Spring Break crowds!
We lucked out and only had to wait for an hour to cross! Phew!
Still seems like forever when you can literally watch mexican ants on the ground crawl past you!!
I might hitch a ride with one of them next time.
I hear they can carry 5000 times their body weight.
I just might make the cut! lol
When we finally got to the border agent I learned I made a grave rookie mistake.
We of course got the strict grouchy lady too.
We handed her our documentation.
She dissected the kids' birth certificates and called out each one by name for them to respond.
As if Eastlie is actually gonna say "HERE, MA'AM!"
(ok on second thought she would actually be my first kid to reply that properly! lol)
Then she scans Ryan's passport and eyes him down.
Then she scans my passport into the database.
She immediately stares me down and asks sternly,
"Has your passport ever been lost or stolen??!"
My mind scrambled like what the heck do you honestly think I'm using a fake stolen passport?!
Then I realized, OH MY GOSH in my haste of getting out of Anthem so fast
I just grabbed the first set of passports out of the safe.
I accidentally had grabbed my super old expired passport
that YES I had lost long ago before I went to Costa Rica.
So I had to report it lost and order a replacement for that trip.
Well as expected, I found the original passport soon after my trip.
Instead of doing the smart thing and destroying it,
I threw it into the safe with the current passports!! (insert forehead smack here!)
My logic at the time was it had lots of stamps from other countries
that I wanted to have as a keepsake.
Well that bit me! lol
I tried to explain the situation to her and she literally didn't crack an expression whatsoever.
"I'm going to need to see 2 more forms of ID!"
So I dug through my purse for anything else I had.
(seriously lady I get you're serious about your job and illegal immigration is a hot topic
but I'm about as USA gringo as they come! lol)
I passed the test when she decided my other forms of ID eliminated the possibility
that I wasn't a Mexican sneaking into the USA.
She handed all the documentation back to us.
Except my passport.
Where she then lectured me that she was going to have to confiscate my passport
and destroy it immediately.
I'm like no problem I have another one back at home...and if you didn't happen to notice
this one expired in 2004 anyway!! Yet somehow I didn't get lectured about that?! lol
So much for the keepsake idea!
And so much for not adding another swipe of deodorant before we left.
That interrogation really got the glands going! lol
As soon as we crossed the border and the sun set....silence!!!
The kids all passed out...well except Eastlie of course.
That child literally talked our ears off
THE ENTIRE DRIVE HOME!
Why do we happen to have the only 2 year old with an elaborately extensive vocabulary?!?! lol
But alas we finally made it home.
To extremely smooth new roads in our neighborhood! lol
Good thing we missed all that headache while we were gone!
(picture taken the following morning!)
Another fabulous Mexico Trip in the books!!
I'm so glad my family loves a good beach getaway as much as I do! :)
