Little Fearless Taylee

So remember how much fun the kids have been having on the trampoline
the last few weeks??
Well the fun inevitably took a bad turn.

The kids were jumping/wrestling on the trampoline on Tuesday after school.
The usual pendulum swung between laughing and crying.
I had given them the final threat
"If you can't keep your hands off each other than you're jumping one at a time!"
They begged to stay on together.
Two minutes later Taylee was crying in a heap holding her wrist.
I run over to see what happened.
Before I even open my mouth Anden throws his hands in the air,
"IT WASN'T MY FAULT!"
Hhhmm that's usually the dead giveaway who's the guilty culprit.

Between tears and denials,
I got two vastly different stories from two kids.
I'll assume the truth is something like this.

Anden was jumping.
Taylee reached up to grab him.
Her arm got wrapped around his leg.
He came crashing down.
Her arm still twisted in between his legs.
And tada...we have a girl with a super sore wrist!

It was her left arm again.
Same one she sprained earlier this year on the monkey bars.
I assumed it was just sprained again.
So inside we went to nurse it.
She wouldn't move her arm the rest of the night.
We iced it.
We elevated it.
Oddly it didn't swell like last time.
So I still sent her to bed that night like normal.
She insisted on keeping her arm inside her nightgown next to her body.
We said prayers for a quick recovery.
And downstairs I went to bed.
She showed up in my room crying 2 hrs later that it hurt.
So she slept, or more like didn't sleep, with me the rest of the night.
She winced in pain every time she moved.
I soothed her every wince.
Sadly I knew it was more than just a sprain.

Wednesday morning was our usual rush routine to get off to school/work.
On the way out she asked if I would take her picture.
She liked her outfit that day.
I quickly noticed she wouldn't let go of her wrist for anything.

We dropped Anden off and then during the half hour before Taylee's school,
we ran to Walgreens and bought her an ace bandage wrap.
I told her I didn't want the kids bumping her arm while at school.
She agreed.

I attempted to wrap her wrist/arm in the car.
She screamed.
She sobbed.
She wouldn't let me touch it.
Taylee is a very tough girl.
This definitely was a bad sign.
She begged to still take her to school.
So I drove that direction.
Then the Mommy sixth sense kicked in.
I u-turned and went right to Urgent Care.

She was nervous.
I was too.
But I hid mine and reassured her all would be fine.
She is SO active and we live in the water.
Please don't be a broken arm!

We first saw the Dr.
She wouldn't let him come near her arm.
He remembered us from when she sprained it.
Everyone went on about how adorable she was.
Even when she's hurt!

Then we waited for the X-Rays.
Once again I got to hold my child while they got X-Rays.
Twice in 2 months isn't something to brag about.

The X-Ray tech was so nice and let Taylee come over and see everything.
Then we waited back in our room for the Dr to deliver the news.
He showed up.
Yep it's fractured.

He gave us our own life size images of the X-rays.
Taylee was scared.
I was too.
Then he informed us that it was a minor fracture common in kids.
So instead of a hard cast
he would put her in a soft cast (brace) for 4-6 wks.
But she could take it off for baths.
Phew!
That made this Momma's job much easier!

She cried in pain when they moved her arm to put the brace on.
And the sling.
She was too tiny and even the XS size was too big.

But within 10 minutes her perky little adorable personality was back.
She chatted with everyone.
Milked her way into 5 stickers instead of 1.
Questioned every worker as to why they chose that outfit that day.
They all loved her.
But really, who doesn't?

Then the Dr. escorted us to the lobby door.
Funny how when I was in there dying with kidney stones he didn't escort ME out.
He waved and yelled to her,
"Bye Taylee I hope you feel better soon!"
And we were off.

Once outside Taylee asked for a new picture.
She was super sad when they first put the brace on and wanted a redo picture.
Funny how simply stabilizing her arm and a few stickers made her a happy girl again!

I asked her if she wanted me to stay home from work with her today.
Heck it was already 10am and I hadn't even been in yet anyway.
She asked if she could go to school.
So that's just what we did.
And boy was she the celebrity when we walked in! lol

Wanna know the best part?
When we got home from school that day.
She innocently asked if she could jump on the trampoline with Anden.

Some lessons are never learned.
