How is it possible to catch a cold
when it's 110 degrees?
Well Anden did just that!
Soon after we returned from Idaho
the kids went to the Harbeck cabin for the weekend.
They played nonstop and had a blast.
Anden started getting sick while they were there.
On the way home the chills, fevers turned into puking.
So on Sunday night they returned back home and he was totally sick.
I felt so bad for him.
My kids are extremely active.
They never just sit and chill.
So when he wanted to quietly sit/lay on the couch,
I knew he felt awful!
Sunday night was a long night with him throwing up
and Monday morning also.
He wanted to still go to the Monday Summer Movies that day.
So I loaded them up and we carefully attempted it.
He brought along his Barf Bucket just in case.
And the next 2 hours were spent juggling 2 kids on 1 Mommy lap.
On a side note,
we saw Charlotte's Web that day.
I haven't seen it since I was a kid.
I completely forgot how sad the ending is.
When a measly spider dies.
I was so choked up fighting back tears while holding my own babies.
Finally the tears were silently dripping down my face
when the Mommy spider died and left her babies alone.
Right then Taylee looks up at me and she's quietly crying too.
I whisper to her while hugging her "oh honey are you ok?! It'll be ok!"
She thrusts her arms around my neck and buried her head into my chest while sobbing.
"What are the baby spiders going to do now without a Mommy??!
Everyone needs a Mommy!!!"
I melted and we both sobbed together holding each other.
"Mommy I never want you to die!!"
Wow.
I didn't for a second think we would have such an emotional moment during a children's movie.
It was intense yet so bonding.
I glanced over at Anden and he was completely unaffected by that tender movie moment.
It made me chuckle.
Men and Women are SO different from the get go!
We pulled ourselves together and finished the movie.
We had already used up all the napkins.
And not for sticky popcorn hands.
But rather sticky eyes.
After the movie we headed straight home so Anden could relax more.
Within minutes he was completely asleep on the couch.
That never happens!
Poor little buddy!!
Well this scene didn't change much for the next 1.5 weeks.
The puking went away after the 2nd day
but the persistent fever, sore throat, runny nose, cough never let up.
I missed work most of that week caring for him.
It breaks my heart to have sick kids and not be able to fix them.
Finally the following Wednesday I was completely frustrated with the lack of improvement.
I'm the Mom that attempts self medicating before hauling kids to the Doctor.
But this one had gone on far too long.
So I took another day off work and off to the Pediatrician we went.
Strep throat Test: Negative
Ear Infection: Negative
She was stumped what was wrong with him too.
She said it was either a very nasty stubborn virus or Pneumonia.
I told her he's had Pneumonia, Croup, etc before.
So she sent us off for chest x-rays.
I felt so bad for my little guy.
He was nervous.
I tried to make it into a game for him.
They only allowed me to go back in with him.
Big girl Taylee had to stay just outside the door by herself.
Luckily my phone entertained her.
Anden was so brave!
They put the weighted jacket on him and he did perfectly.
Then we impatiently awaited them to call us with the results.
Countless prayers had been said by me on his behalf.
Countless prayers had been said by me on my behalf too.
I was almost as worn down by this lingering sickness as he was!
Well the results came back the next morning that the x-rays were negative!
Phew no Pneumonia!!
And suddenly he woke up that morning with NO fever and with energy!
YEAH!!
Each day after dramatically improved!
Before we knew it,
Anden was back!!
Which also meant that now Taylee was screaming that he was beating on her.
Hhmm maybe the lethargic Anden wasn't so bad after all! ;-)
